Samal followed the path set out before her. Went to school, pursued higher education then, with a high level of three languages got a good job in her field. She worked as a translator in both the business and education sectors. She liked her job, earnt good money, and was good at what she did. After a while though, the translation work dried up and Samal found herself working in the prostitution industry, regularly drinking to escape and pregnant with a client’s child.

Samal may no longer be working in her field, but she is still smart. Realising that standing on the streets had become too much for her, she made the shift and began working on the internet. She still has difficulties with this and explained to us her fears. Working online she is more comfortable and can stay at home until she has a client – but she loses the ability to vet them and see what they look like before she finds herself in their houses.

Samal would love to go back to her old work of translating but there still doesn’t seem to be much available. Not only that, during the time she has been in the trade she has forgotten much of what she used to know, going back there would be difficult – if anyone would even give her a job! So for now and for the future as she sees it, she faces her fears every day.
